Silver Lining Awards Rules

  • Please read the rules, terms & conditions in conjunction with the FAQs.
  • These awards are open to all AIPP membership classes as well as the general public both within Australia and internationally.
  • Entrants must be 18 years of age or above as of February 1st 2021 to enter these awards.
  • All images must be 100% photographic in origin and entirely the work of the entrant, including post-production.
  • Any image captured on or after March 1st 2016 may be entered, providing a five-year window from within which entrants may select images to enter.
  • Images previously entered in any AIPP Silver Lining, AIPP Epson state or AIPP national awards may not be entered in these awards.
  • Images submitted for this competition may be entered in future state and national print AIPP Awards provided they adhere to the rules, terms and conditions of those awards at the time of entry.
  • Accredited and General Members of the AIPP may enter up to five (5) images in every category. General public and international entrants may enter up to five (5) images in every category.
  • Students studying at a registered tertiary institution may enter five (5) images in total into the competition, across any categories they wish.
  • Entrants may not enter the same image in more than one category.
  • Titles may be included for each image in any category, to a maximum of 70 characters per image.
  • Images entered into the Stories category may be accompanied with an optional description of up to 75 words per story.
  • All images captured, retouched or digitally edited over the duration of a workshop, tutorial or similar, where the primary focus of the event is education, are ineligible. This is irrespective of whether or not the image submitted was captured or created under the direct instruction of the educator/presenter. The rule applies only to attendees of workshops, tutorials and educational/training events. Instructors of these events and those entering as students are exempt.
  • Images captured by attendees of photo-tours, where the primary focus is not educational, are not restricted from entering images.
  • If the Awards Committee feels an image has been entered in the wrong category it reserves the right to move that image to another category without consultation with the entrant.
  • Each entry must comply with the competition rules, terms and conditions and conform with the published technical specifications for image file size, quality and submission. Entries that do not comply may be removed from the competition without notification or refund of entry fee.
  • The Awards Committee reserves the right to request RAW files for any entry for verification and compliance purposes. The inability or refusal to supply said RAW file may result in disqualification of the image.
  • In the Smartphone category, entrants may be asked to submit / discuss / re-create their phone-only editing process by the Awards Committee. Failure to prove the editing process was solely completed on a smartphone may result in disqualification of the image
  • Entrants must submit their digital image files with an sRGB colour profile for optimal web viewing.
  • Finalists in each category may be required to submit a full-sized Adobe RGB file so the entry may be printed for exhibition.
  • If an image is disqualified the entrant will not receive a refund for that entry.
  • If an entrant purchases an entry during the entry open period but then fails to submit an image for entry by entry close date, a refund will not be provided.
  • Refunds will not be provided if an entrant changes their mind after entry submission.

Terms & Conditions

  • The promoter of this competition is the Australian Institute of Professional Photography, ABN 77 050 167 498, Collaroy Beach, NSW 2097
  • The competition will open on Monday 1st February 2021 and close on Monday 1st March 2021 at 6pm AEST. Determination of winners and prizes will be completed by Wednesday 21st April 2021 and announced via online telecast.
  • Entries that are found to breach Competition Rules or Terms & Conditions will be disqualified. If such entry is awarded a prize, that prize must be surrendered.
  • Entry fees and prizes are quoted in Australian dollars.
  • Total prize pool of cash and prizes is $60,009. Prizes will be as stated, with no alternative prizes available for winners. If the AIPP cannot contact the winning entrant by phone or email within a reasonable time frame the judges may award the prize to another entry.
  • Prizes are not transferable and are not redeemable for cash.
  • The entrant is responsible for transport and delivery of prizes if outside of Australia.
  • Copyright to all entries remains the property of the entrant, but the AIPP reserves the right to publish or otherwise use entered images for the purposes of promotion, publicity and education. If images are used in this way the photographer will be acknowledged by name whenever possible.
  • Entries must be original works and may not contravene any copyright restrictions nor violate any privacy or property rights. Though not required to submit them at the time of entry, entrants must be able to produce appropriate model releases, property releases or other permissions if requested. Failure to do so may result in disqualification of the image.
  • The decisions of the judges and the AIPP Awards Committee in relation to any aspect of these awards are final and no further discussion will be entered into.
  • Any areas or issues not explicitly covered by these terms and conditions and other competition rules will be interpreted by the AIPP Awards Committee if and as they arise.
